Director Trauma Program – Salem, VA

  • Compensation: $95K - $150K, based on experience

Position Overview:
The Trauma Program Director (TPD) is responsible for ensuring all trauma center verification standards are met in accordance with state and national requirements. This role involves comprehensive oversight of trauma program operations, performance improvement, education, and community outreach. The TPD will lead efforts to ensure optimal trauma care across the continuum, working closely with physicians, senior administration, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Survey Readiness: Prepare the hospital staff for ACS verification and re-verification.
  • Clinical Oversight: Manage trauma care, including implementation of clinical protocols and practice guidelines.
  • Education: Provide professional development, facilitate case reviews, and direct trauma education and prevention initiatives.
  • Performance Improvement: Monitor clinical outcomes, identify trends, and implement quality improvement actions.
  • Administration: Oversee the operational, personnel, and financial aspects of the trauma program.
  • Supervision: Lead the trauma registry, ensuring accurate data collection and performance improvement activities.
  • Consultation: Act as a resource for internal and external stakeholders, including EMS agencies.
  • Research: Involve in research, protocol design, and feedback analysis.
  • Community Involvement: Contribute to the development of trauma care systems at various levels.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in clinical nursing leadership in Trauma, ER, ICU, or other critical care areas.
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC required. CEN or CCRN must be obtained within 2 years of hire.
  • Trauma Experience: Must have experience overseeing a trauma program, preparing for surveys, and strong performance improvement and regulatory components.

FTE Structure:

  • Trauma Registrar: 3 FTEs
  • Trauma PI Coordinators: 2 FTEs
  • Trauma Educator: 1 FTE
  • Trauma Injury Prevention/Outreach Coordinator: 1 FTE
  • Trauma Nurse Leads: 2 FTEs

Survey Information:

  • Last Survey: April 2, 2024
  • Next Survey: April 2026
  • Facility Level: State Level II Trauma Center

Administration & Team:

  • Active involvement from senior administration in monthly trauma meetings and planning.
  • Dedicated trauma surgeons and APPs.

Compensation:

  • $95K - $150K, based on experience.
