Overview
A large, high-volume hospital system in Houston is seeking an experienced Administrative Director of Emergency Services to lead operations across the main Emergency Department and multiple Freestanding Emergency Departments (FSEDs).
With 80,000+ annual systemwide visits, this role offers the opportunity to influence clinical excellence, patient flow, operational efficiency, and long-term strategic growth. Ideal for a seasoned ED leader ready for a system-level impact role.
Key Responsibilities
Quality & Clinical Leadership
Implement evidence-based practices to enhance patient safety and outcomes.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements.
Monitor and standardize clinical practice to reduce variation and improve efficiency.
Drive throughput strategies, including capacity planning, flow coordination, admissions, and discharges.
Oversee nursing practice standards, policies, and service expectations.
Patient Experience
Advance a consistent, exceptional patient experience across all emergency care locations.
Use patient feedback and performance metrics to guide improvement initiatives.
Collaborate with patient experience teams to roll out service excellence strategies.
People Leadership
Build a culture of engagement, accountability, and professional growth.
Mentor and develop managers, supervisors, and emerging leaders.
Implement retention and workforce stability strategies.
Ensure staffing models support safe, effective patient care.
Growth & Strategic Planning
Partner with executives and physician leadership to expand emergency services.
Identify opportunities for growth, new service lines, and competitive differentiation.
Stay current on market trends, reimbursement, and healthcare innovations.
Financial & Operational Management
Lead annual budget planning and monitor financial performance.
Manage labor resources, productivity, and premium pay.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and operational efficiencies.
Ensure appropriate use of supplies, technology, and equipment.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
3+ years of recent experience as an Acute Care ED Director or ED Manager (large-volume preferred).
Demonstrated success leading high-acuity, high-volume emergency operations.
Preferred
Master’s degree (MSN, MHA, MBA, or related field).
Experience overseeing multiple ED locations or complex organizational structures.
Proven record of measurable performance improvements and operational achievements.
